Question for Fiction Writers: To Journal or Not to Journal?

Most general writing books suggest journaling as a way of expressing yourself and getting into the writing mode. However, as someone who writes fiction, I think journaling minimizes the pow in my prose. If I "unload" in my journal, then there's no need to do it when I'm working on my novel.

So my question to you out there is - if you write fiction, do you find it useful or hurtful to journal?

I love writing fiction, and, like I said in my own blog, I find real life happenings useful when writing. If you keep a journal (which I do) than you can use it as a refrence to things that really can happen and really do happen. You could use your personal experience as something a character goes through to make the story more interesting, especially if you write realistic fiction. I say, up with journaling!
